Visit to the Aljarafe winery

The wine tradition of the area of Aljarafe comes from the Roman times. Just in the heart of Aljarafe Bodegas Góngora is found, in the village of Villanueva del Ariscal.

Since 1862, when José de Góngora y Arando acquired the hacienda known as “Pata de Hierro” to turn it into a winery, seven generations of the same family have dedicated their whole effort to the production of different kinds of wine (finos, amontillados, olorosos y dulces).

It’s essential to mention the winery of the 16th century and its “prensa” called “Prensa de Husillo y Quintal” whose length is 17 metres. This “viga” was made in 1574, and it is declared as a cultural interest object by the Junta de Andalucía with the category of Monument.
